Feel Like Bruise On Head

From the "Manifesto" of May 7, 2008

there and do or die left
Mauro Bulgarelli

I would not be overly pessimistic, but the next day after the Italian parliamentary promises to do more damage than those that led to his liquefaction election. Of course I have respect for all those attempts, however dimly, are intended to shore up the debris produced by the vote of April, but I can not detect as they are, for the moment, completely internal to that political class which has enormous responsibility in the disaster that has wiped out. (...)

should instead, take note of the irrevocable locking of a cycle, which has not been determined by the "cynical election designs of the PD" - as someone called them - but inadequate and short-sightedness of a already largely left in crisis after a horrible season and instead of government to get involved in the territories has taken the dead end of survival at all costs of its political classes.

no use denying it: The Left Rainbow has arrived without leaving the elections in the two previous years, the slightest impression governmental action and, nevertheless, claimed that their voters would recognize, perhaps to an extent less, credibility and consensus. (...) It would take too long to retrace the steps of this trend but it is a fact that social actors have learned to walk very well on its own feet and said in a brutal manner, to trust only themselves.

signals were already clear: the Susa Valley in Vicenza was apparent that there was no institutional space for the left who aspired to be the interface parliamentary parasitic movements and at the same time, their integral part "of law."

And now these social actors have decided to 'go it alone, "finding no trace of leftist parties in the many battles that lead to their territories against the incinerators, the garbage, high speed, military bases, for defense of common goods, home, workplace.

This multitude of actors, individual and collective, forming committees, gives rise to principals, pacts, Autoconvocate events, communicating through channels - sometimes through language- inaccessible to us - decided to use the institutions and administrative deadlines as a window of visibility for their battles and their needs, reporting election results more than flattering the last year in Sardinia, a civil list, "Viva Alghero ', has managed to exceed 5 per cent despite the disastrous collapse of the whole of the center. (...) In the last municipal elections, the list "Vicenza free," born within the movement, "No Dal Molin," has reached the same percentage, getting twice the votes of the Left Rainbow, and has been instrumental in ballot, for the victory "historic" candidate of the center- Achille Variati, schieratosi against the new U.S. base. And where the movements have decided not to create their own lists, and chose the way of abstention, which resulted in the resetting of the institutional left.

Hence my skepticism about the day after. The left does not need to change clothes but political substance, to decentralize and relocate, to relate instances from the territories and communities but also to question estrangement, hostility against this latest manifestation of political parties and institutions .

If a crisis of representation is now in full maturity, you must be aware that, as the left we also part of the problem not the solution. (...)

Therefore, if a constituent phase a new left still has a chance, it must be played in the territories on major social and environmental issues must be based on listening, confrontation, cooperation, conflict, should adopt as a tool for dialogue and horizontal construction Autoconvocate territorial assemblies open to civil society, and may not have the port yet another remake of parties that are nothing more than simple containers of tiles to be used for internal conflicts.

policy in the territories, is measured on the 'do' on 'there. " When this not the case, representative democracy dies, so choose the defensive, choose the representation that is against democracy.
